WMS. Control stock before every decision.

From receipt to supply: connect warehouse records, quality gates and inventory transactions under one explicit owner.

Recorded stock is not always usable stock.

WMS organizes warehouse records and decisions. Coordinators need stock condition before assigning work to people or equipment.

An item is interpreted within warehouse, location, UOM, lot/serial and quality context. Unit mismatches or held lots change usable quantity even when goods remain physically present.

In the example, LOT-010 at A-01 holds 40 EA, with 12 EA reserved for CALL-010 and 28 EA available absent other restrictions. QC-held LOT-020 is treated separately. These are illustrative quantities, not performance claims.

LOT / location Quantity Meaning
LOT-010 / A-01 40 EA Lot balance at location
RES-010 12 EA Reserved for CALL-010
AVAILABLE 28 EA Eligible in this example
LOT-020 / QC 38 EA Not quality-released

Different entry paths. One movement record.

INBOUND

Count accurately, confirm the location.

ASN/PO defines expectations; counts and scans record observations. GRN retains received quantity and discrepancies; QC authorizes use. Putaway completes after location/quantity verification. An ERP message alone does not make stock usable.

Explore receiving and QC

OUTBOUND

Allocate first, reconcile shipment quantity.

Outbound orders create demand; reservations commit quantity under WMS authority. Pick/pack checks items, lots and quantities; short picks retain unresolved demand. Partial shipment cannot silently become full fulfillment. Shipment feedback retains ERP transaction identifiers.

Follow pick/pack/handover

Decisions that change stock.

Rules follow module scope and warehouse configuration; no universal allocation algorithm is assumed.

01

Reservation

Check valid demand, eligible quantity and revision. Competing demand follows approved rules and recorded allocation; two systems cannot independently reserve the same stock.

02

Quality hold / release

QC disposition controls usability, not just location. Movement scans cannot bypass hold. Release authority is separate from transport execution.

03

Count and adjustment

Define scope/timestamp, inspect active movements and recount where needed. Authorized review precedes adjustment; robot telemetry is not a physical count.

04

Replenish and re-slot

Compare demand, capacity and in-transit work. Approved plans create tasks; changed destinations require reference and handover rechecks.

Receive 38 EA against a 40 EA ASN.

A separate illustrated receipt: observed quantity, shortage, QC and location remain distinct decision milestones.
